Two shops sold booze to kids
By Sam Matthews
TWO BUSINESSES caught selling alcohol to under 18s have had their licences suspended.
Slough Borough Council’s Licensing sub-committee has banned 1 Stop Liquor Store, Farnham Road, Slough, from selling alcohol for three weeks and One Stop, Farnham Road, for two weeks.
Dean Cooke, from the Trading Standards team, said: “This is an extra piece of ammunition Trading Standards can use to ensure shopkeepers comply with the law. Working in unison with our licencing team we hope to deter traders from selling any age-related products to children who should not have them.”
The punishment was handed out to One Stop Liquor Store on Thursday last week after the grocery store sold two bottles of orange Bacardi Breezer to a 15-year-old boy during a Trading Standards sting operation on Friday, October 13.
During the same operation, nearby 1 Stop also sold two bottles of Bud Ice to the under-age boy.
The report handed to members of the committee highlight that the police have received a number of complaints from local residents and shopkeepers about both premises.
They recommended that the premises had their licences suspended in order for them to put measures in place to prevent future breaches.
Both businesses have 21 days to appeal the suspension before the temporary ban comes into force.
