MP blasts trains
By Observer Newsroom
SLOUGH MP Fiona Mactaggart has blasted a train operator, which is riddled with over crowding and delays, and say it will need to do more to combat commuter chaos.
The Labour politician believes that First Great Western’s (FGW) latest plans for extra trains on some routes and £63m to improve train interiors will not be enough to fix services running through Slough and the Royal Windsor Station.
Ms Mactaggart said: “These latest proposals do not directly benefit Slough and the main change planned for December will only help by having more seating on fast trains from Oxford and Reading so the slower trains which stop at Slough won’t be so crowded.
“FGW is just the worst train service in the country and these plans will not be enough to lift them off the bottom of the railway league table.
“Our services have got worse since FGW took over. I will continue to press them to provide a better service but I have stopped having any confidence in their promises.”
A spokesman for FGW said: “We are looking at ways to improve commuter comfort between the Reading to London route. But at the moment there is not enough capacity to run more trains in the mornings.”
