Mike's radio daze
By Observer Newsroom
Time 106.6 FMs Mike Russell
A RADIO presenter, who is attempting to stay on air for a gruelling five-and-a-half days with no sleep, is looking for medics to keep a check on him during the challenge.
Time 106.6 FM’s Mike Russell needs doctors and nurses who can monitor his condition as he attempts to break the world record for the longest live broadcast starting on Monday, May 14.
His show will start at 8am and hopefully end when he smashes the current record for 125 hours, which was set by an Italian DJ.
He said: “We need people to certify that I am doing the challenge and to also make sure that I’m not going mad. Humans are not meant to stay awake for that long so anything could happen.
“It will be great listening but that also means that we need doctors and nurses to keep an eye on me.”
Mike is allowed a 15-minute break after eight hours and can play songs for up to six minutes.
The 25-year-old from Slough, who is also know as Mike The Marathon Man, is looking for chatty helpers to volunteer to go into the studio at The Observatory Shopping Centre, Slough, during the record bid.
They will have the chance to speak for up to a minute at a time on air.
The presenter is raising money for Time 106.6’s chosen charity, Berkshire Give A Child A Chance.
Anyone interested in making a donation or helping out on a four-hour shift rota should email mikethemarathonman@volunteerslough.org.uk for more information.
