A WOMAN has vowed to continue her mother’s selfless charity work after she lost her battle with cancer last week.

Christine Mason, who annually collected Easter eggs for needy children, passed away on Friday.

The 57-year-old worked for Slough Borough Council’s Community, Safety and Action Team for more than 30 years and devoted her time to supporting charities.

Her daughter Lisa, of Farnham Royal, has pledged to continue her annual Easter eggs collection in her memory.

The teaching assistant, who works for Claycots Primary School in Britwell, said: “For as long as I can remember my mum was doing something for charity. One year she collected more than 500 eggs and her living room was so packed with them you couldn’t get through the door.

“It was something she was very proud of and I know it is something she would like to see continued. I want to do something to pay tribute to everything she did.”

Mrs Mason, who lived in Burnham most of her life and moved to Windsor three years ago, collected the eggs by appealing to local people and businesses for Kids Company, a London based charity for vulnerable children and young people.

Jatinder Matharu, who worked with Mrs Mason for seven years, said: “She had been doing the collection for as long as I knew her. She would getting everyone working at the council involved.

“She was a very charitable person and she was always organising charity events and collections.

“She always wanted to help people who couldn’t help themselves. I’ve never met anyone so giving and we would like to pay tribute to her generosity by continuing the collection.”

The funeral for Mrs Mason, who died after a battle with lung cancer, will be held at Slough Crematorium on Monday at 12.30pm.

Anyone who would like to donate an Easter Egg can drop it off at the Slough Observer\'s offices at Upton Court in Datchet Road, Slough.
