Bitten mum calls for tougher action

Anger: Nur Khan with her four-week-old son, Danyan.
A MOTHER who was bitten by a dog has called for tougher action to be taken against irresponsible pet owners.
Nur Khan, 32, of Langley Road, was walking with her four-week-old baby outside Marish Primary School, on Wednesday last week at about 4pm, when she was attacked by a large terrier that was on a lead held by a nine-year-old girl.
She reported the incident to the police. Miss Khan said: “How could a responsible parent allow a young child to walk a large dog which is clearly not controllable?
“The girl’s mother did not seem at all bothered about what had happened. She told the police she blamed me for being bitten because I had sweets in my pocket.
“I think this dog is dangerous and its owners should take more care in handling it. I am just thankful that a child wasn’t attacked, otherwise the consequences could have been far worse than just bruising.
“When I arrived home I was still quite shaken and decided to report the incident to the young girl’s mother.
“She did not seem at all bothered about what had happened and so I told her I would report it to the police.
“Officers took me to the home to identify the dog and then asked me to wait in the car. On returning, the officer told me that the woman had admitted that the incident took place, but blamed me for being bitten because I had sweets in my pocket.
“I am not sure if the police are taking this matter any further but I think tougher action should be taken against irresponsible pet owners who allow dangerous animals to be within close range of young children.”
