Girl gang-raped in public park
By Aamina Zafar
Scene of horror: The park is often used by families
A 15-year-old girl has been gang-raped by three men who pounced on her as she walked through a family park.
The horrific sex attack on Sunday evening was in Springate Field, Langley, a popular play area used by children and dog walkers.
The sex fiends stalked the girl as she walked in Hillary Road at around 8.30pm. They appeared out of nearby Bannister Close and followed her into the park where they sexually assaulted her.
The news has stunned the nearby community. Resident Alan Wilkins, of Springate Field, said: “I’m completely shocked that something nasty like this could happen on our doorstep.
“It’s a friendly area and there are always kids playing in the park so to think a teenage girl could have been raped there is disgusting. I have a six-year-old daughter and I’ll think twice about letting her play there.”
Neighbour Gurbux Bansal, of Hillary Road, added: “We moved here two years ago because it was a nice street, so I am very upset.
“I have a four-year-old granddaughter, who I take to the park regularly but now I don’t feel safe walking on my own.”
The police have alerted nearby schools to warn youngsters to remain vigilant and will carry out more patrols to reassure locals.
Det Insp Steve Armstead, investigating the incident, said: “This has obviously been a very distressing ordeal for the victim and I would like to reassure people that we are doing all we can to trace the men who did this.”
All three attackers were described as being in their late teens. The first is white with blue eyes, around 5ft 6ins and of medium build. He wore dark trousers and a black hooded top.
The second is white, 5ft 5ins, with facial hair on his chin. He wore a silver and grey hooded top and blue tracksuit bottoms.
The third man is of medium build and wore a light blue tracksuit and white trainers.
Anyone with information should call Det Insp Armstead on 08458 505505 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
