Speed trap: The stretch of road which is causing concern among residents.

ACTION to tackle speeding on a winding stretch of ‘dangerous’ road could be taken after a councillor raised his fears.

Residents in Park Road, Stoke Poges, have been worried about drivers speeding along the road and have suffered the consequences when things go wrong.

A car recently crashed into the fence of Park Road resident and Stoke Poges parish councillor Jimmy Ball.

He said: “On March 5 the car just spun out of control, it was obviously going very fast. It mowed down about six panels with concrete posts, and trees as well. We have just had the fence repaired and it cost nearly £2,000. It is not just mine, lots of others have had this damage.

“The road is very bad. Park Road is a general rat run. They are going too fast, then bang on the brakes because they don’t know what to do and the car spins. They come down the back here – huge lorries as well come screeching through. I think that most of it is speed. My personal view is that Park Road should be declared unfit for these large juggernauts to go down.”

At a recent parish meeting Cllr Ball asked the Bucks County Council representative for Stoke Poges, Trevor Egleton, to raise the problem with those at county level.

Cllr Ball said: “We should do something – it is getting very dangerous. Waiting for someone to be mowed down before anything is done is ridiculous. It is a long road and the bend is notorious.

“What I want to do is to get some figures of the speed that is being used on that road, as the way they are driving is dangerous.”

Cllr Egleton this week said he has progressed the issue and is hopeful something can be done, and Cllr Ball has spoken to police about the problems with the hope of some speed checks being carried out.

Cllr Egleton said: “We had our trip round Stoke Poges and Farnham Common last week with Jim Stevens, head of transportation, and Kevin Askew, our local area technician.

“I pointed out the problems on Park Road with the speeding, and the county council is looking to see if there are any measures they can do to try to reduce the speeding. It was quite productive.”
