Terrifying ordeal with knife-wielding robber
By Aamina Zafar
SCARED: Amrik Singh was shaken up after the ordeal at his shop.
A SHOP owner, who was threatened by a masked robber with a kitchen knife, has spoken out about his terrifying ordeal.
Amrik Singh, 38, thought he was going to be killed when a man, whose face was concealed by a balaclava, stormed his off licence Quality Foods.
The robber pushed over stands to get behind the counter where he threatened Mr Singh and shop worker, Rahul Kukriga, by pointing a foot-long blade at their throats on Friday.
The married father-of-four, who has owned the store in Cherwell Close, Langley, for the last two-years, said: “When a man wearing a mask came in, I knew something was wrong. He started shouting ‘open the till’ and then got a knife out and put it against our throats.
“I was so worried and really thought I was going to die. I am a family man and started thinking what would happen to my children if anything happened to me.
“The whole things only lasted about five minutes, but it was the worst five minutes of my life.”
The attacker managed to snatch £350 in cash during the robbery before running off at around 2.50pm. Luckily no customers were in the store at the time.
The pair managed to alert the police who closed the shop for three hours as forensic experts looked for clues.
Det Sgt Dominic Found, who is investigating the raid, said: “This was a very frightening incident for the shop owner as the offender was very aggressive and made threats with a knife.
“The incident happened at a busy time of the day and I am confident there will have been people in the area who saw the offender leave the shop on foot.”
Police are still hunting for the criminal who is white, around 6ft 3ins and of medium build.
He was wearing a black long-sleeved coat with fur trimming around the hood and a logo on the left chest area, blue track-suit bottoms with white stripes along the legs, white trainers and black gloves.
Anyone with information should call the police on 08458 505505 or the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
