Family devastated over arson attack
By Ruth Moulden
A MOTHER has spoken of her devastation and shock after her two family cars were torched by arsonists.
She and her husband were forced to get their four children from their beds and take them to safety after the two family cars, which had been parked in front of the house at an address off Beaconsfield Road in Farnham Common, were found on fire just before 2am on Friday last week.
The woman, who wants to remain anonymous, said: “My husband’s car alarm had gone off so he went downstairs to turn it off and both cars were on fire. It was huge.
“I have got four children aged from, 15 months to 14, so we got them downstairs and put them in the conservatory because we were afraid the cars were going to blow. There was a loud popping sound and that is what woke the neighbours up. They have all been very concerned.”
Speaking later the same day as the incident, the woman said she had not slept and was still in shock after the incident, which is being treated as arson by police.
She said: “It was very scary because they were both burning. They are both write-offs. When my husband came home at 1am he did see somebody who was looking suspicious and jittery.
“The police said they are going to look on the cameras on the main street and see if they can see anything.
“We are just very grateful that the car alarm did go off and that we were in time to deal with the situation. It has just been a very traumatic night.”
She added: “We rent the house so we are not in a position to lose two cars.
“It is so frightening to think that somebody would actually do that. I still can’t believe it. The police seem to think that they tried to break into my husband’s car and that maybe something had gone wrong.”
An appliance and crew from Beaconsfield attended the scene where they used a dry powder extinguisher and compressed air foam, along with two sets of breathing apparatus and one hose reel.
