Out for a stroll: People step outside their cars on the M4 today (Monday)

FAMILIES, on their way out to enjoy a sunny Bank Holiday Monday, found themselves trapped on the M4 this afternoon after police closed a stretch of the motorway.

The M4 was closed between junction five and six for more than half an hour after an incident at around 1.40pm.

Many motorists left their cars to escape the heat and even climbed onto the footbridges to top up water supplies from local shops.

A 34-year-old Slough man has been detained by police officers after the incident and was rushed to Wexham Park Hospital as a precaution.
