'Suspended' councillor hits back

A COUNCILLOR has hit back at claims he was suspended from Labour.

Cllr Pervez Choudhry, The Central ward councillor, who is at the centre of a political storm, left the party to join the Conservatives on Sunday. Yesterday the local Labour Party said it has suspended him as he had not informed them of his departure.

He told to the Observer that he sent a letter to Labour confirming that he would not renew his membership on Saturday and that would mean he was leaving the party.

He said: "How can you suspend someone who has already left? I don't know why they are saying I have not given them confirmation of leaving because I have.

"In fact I have had lots of calls from them trying to make me come back. Labour are just playing games and it is not on."
