Jailed for stealing mum’s inheritance
A DAUGHTER who systematically stole her widowed mum’s inheritance has been jailed for 18 months.
Christine Robins, 34, who lived next door to her mum Liz in Evreham Road, Iver, stole around £55,000 between July last year and January this year – money that Mrs Robins had been left by her mother and from the death of her husband.
Robins, who had a part-time job at a school in Slough, was jailed on Monday last week after appearing at Aylesbury Crown Court where she was charged with 24 counts of theft after pleading guilty at High Wycombe Magistrates Court on May 7.
Her brother Mark says he will never forgive her, but said his 65-year-old mum is already missing her daughter.
Mr Robins, 38, said: “I have not forgiven her and I won’t. I have not spoken to her. I think it will be hard for mum to trust her but eventually she might.”
Mrs Robins became worried after her card was declined in shops on two separate occasions in November and January, and investigations by the bank showed the correct PIN number had been used with the card.
On checking another account, where the bulk of the money was, Mrs Robins found this was also emptied. Mr Robins said: “The police got involved, they did an investigation and my sister was arrested for it all in January.
“Mum couldn’t believe it was her. She was upset, distraught. Now my sister is in jail she misses her. Those two were close. She just wants her back and she wants to go and see her.”
Mr Robins was in court for his sister’s sentencing. He said: “As far as I know there was no remorse there. I was shocked, I did not expect it to be that sort of length of time.”
Now that she has begun her sentence, the family are trying to carry on as normal.
Mr Robins said: “Mum wants to see her [Christine] and those questions like ‘why did you do it?’ will be asked. For my mum’s sake I will just go along with it but I won’t forgive her. I have got no intention of going to see her. We will just try and sort out this mess, that is all we can do.”
