Officers tackle under age sales
TRADING standards officers are working with businesses to reduce the amount of under age sale purchases in Slough.
An intensive programme has begun to ensure businesses comply with legislation restricting the sale of certain goods like alcohol, cigarettes, knives and fireworks to minors and information packs are to be given to all sellers of age restricted products.
These will include a breakdown of the legislation surrounding certain items, the minimum age of purchase and the penalties for non-compliance, along with signs for traders, aide memoir, refusals registers and application forms for proof of age cards.
Commissioner for community and leisure, Cllr Shafiq Chaudhry, added: “This is an excellent opportunity for traders to speak to the trading standards team about what we can do to help them.
"The packs contain some very good information and hopefully help the traders with any problems they have.”
The trading standards team will continue to carry out test purchasing with underage volunteers and questionnaires will be given to traders for feedback on their concerns.
