THE council wants residents who share their birthday with the borough to help celebrate the milestone next week.

On Sunday, September 14, it will be 70 years since the town received a Royal Charter from the King and officially became a borough.

And the council wants anyone born in Slough on that day to join in the celebrations.

The event coincides with the launch of the 'Proud to be Slough' campaign, organised by the public and prviate sector to improve perceptions of the town and encourage a sense of pride in residents and businesses.

Any Slough residents lucky enough to be turning 70 on September 14 are asked to call 01753 875568.

For god sake why are we spending money to celebrate 70 years when the borough is so in need of repairs, street cleaning and helping our needy residents.

Councilors excuse for a knees up again at rate payers expense

After losing £100K on "Music in The Park" arranged by the BILLD administration. I do not see why the Borough should not celebrate its incorporation. The next celebration will be 2038. Not celebrating it will not cause one jot of improvement in the other things Kath mentions.

I would like to see the books to prove that no taxpayers money is being spent, with just putting staff resources into tracing people to mark the event it has leftus short staff and no replacements at the council.

Their are functions being attended by the Major and councillors so it will cost everyone
