Fined over illegal dumping
THE manager of a guest house has been fined for failing in his duty of care after a tenant was caught on camera illegally dumping materials.
Mohammed Nawaz, 46, manager of Avondale Guest House in Yew Tree Road, Slough, appeared at Wycombe Magistrates Court on October 1.
He pleaded guilty to failing to take all reasonable measures to prevent illegal dumping, failing to ensure that the waste was transferred to an authorised person, failing to transfer a written description of the waste and failing to keep transfer notes.
He was ordered to pay £1,355 in fines, costs and victim surcharge.
The case was brought by Bucks County Council after footage from June 17 last year captured Shaun Palmer dumping mattresses and chairs in Court Lane, Iver, from a Transit van used by Avondale.
At a previous hearing Palmer pleaded guilty to fly tipping and was ordered to pay £200 in fines, costs and victim surcharge.
Cllr Martin Tett, Chairman of the Waste Committee for Bucks said: “The dumping location in Iver was a very remote and quiet area. The fly tipper must have been very shocked when he was informed by the authorities that he had been caught on camera.
"This must serve as yet another reminder that we are prepared to use cameras to catch fly tippers and bring them to court. Fly tipping is anti social and dangerous. Our residents hate it. How many more convictions do we need in Bucks before people give up on this criminal act and only take their waste to authorised sites?”
Anyone who sees people dumping waste illegally in Bucks can report it on 0845 330 1856.
