Police chief denies image caused Road Wars pull-out

POLICE have denied they pulled out of hit crime reality show, Road Wars, because it gave a bad impression of Slough officers.

The Sky One show made cult figures of officers from the town's road policing team before Thames Valley Police severed ties last month.

Producers last week expressed surprise after Chief Cons Sara Thornton told Slough Borough Council she had become concerned that the show reinforced negative stereotypes of the town.

She also gave a presentation to councillors in Bracknell in which she admitted officers were shown in a bad light.

Now Chief Cons Thornton has said this was not the main reason the force withdrew from the programme.

She said: "There were some clips during the programme that did not depict the Force in a good light, but we were fully aware of this risk when signing up to this type of documentary programme. This though was not the main reason for us ending our contract with the company."

She insisted the force simply didn't have the time to continue supporting the programme.

The programme will continue to air but will focus on other forces.
