Keith and Glynne at St Croix
BURNHAM-base Ironman Keith Greenough has qualified for the World Championship for the second year in a row.
The 56-year-old finished fourth in his age group at the St Croix Half Ironman triathlon in the US Caribbean last month to secure his spot.
The endurance event involves swimming, cycling and running over a combined distance of 70.3 miles. The St Croix event is renowned for having one of the hardest cycle courses in the world, and temperatures reached over ninety degrees.
In St Croix Keith’s wife Glynne also took part and finished an excellent second place in the Women’s 50-54 age group.
Glynne was particularly pleased with her race result, having spent most of last year with a back injury. She said: “I’m really grateful to TRI UK [the couple’s sponsors] for showing such faith in me and including me in the team again – I hardly competed at all last year!”
The pair have now set their sights on the Windsor triathlon on Saturday, June 17.
The Ironman World Championship will take place in Florida in November.
