Bracknell game good to go
By Observer Sport
SLOUGH Jets Ice Hockey Club's Boxing Day game will go ahead as scheduled after the future of the Bracknell Bees was secured until the end of the season.
The English Premier Ice Hockey League postponed the Bees' game against Romford Raiders on Sunday in the wake of news that David Taylor had ceased to finance the club.
However, tireless work from the club's supporters has managed to secure enough finance and convince both the league and owner of the Bracknell rink, John Nike, to keep the club going until the end of the season.
A statement posted on the Bracknell Bees website on Monday from supporters club chairman, Stuart Robinson, reads: "After an incredibly long day of negotiations, we have just been informed by the English Premier League chairman, Ken Taggart, that the proposals that have been made to keep the Bees alive for the rest of the season have been accepted by both the league and the John Nike Group. Therefore we're good to go."
The Bees have a double-header against Telford Tigers this weekend before hosting Slough on Boxing Day (Wednesday next week).
Jets head coach Moria says has urged fans to get to the Boxing Day game.
He said: "There's a lot of teams in financial trouble, there always have been. We need people at that game - we need more people at all games."
And he does not expect the recent upset to make Slough's big rivals any more beatable.
"I think they are going to be extremely determined to beat us regardless of the situation," he said. "If anything they are going to be more relaxed because it has been sorted."
