Blues sign Stewart
By Observer Sport
BURNHAM Football Club made another signing over the weekend, bringing in striker Alex Stewart from league rivals Oxford City.
Stewart has scored eight league goals for City this season and has previously played for Thame United.
He went straight into the starting line-up against Paulton Rovers on Saturday, but his addition to the side failed to stop the Blues losing their fifth game on the bounce 2-1.
Burnham took the lead after 20 minutes when Craig O’Connor earned and scored a penalty after he was bundled over in the box.
However, this was the last part he would play in the game after a hamstring problem flared up and he had to be replaced by Jordan Dowdican.
It only took six minutes for the visitors to get back on level terms when Rob Cousins fired a free-kick into the back of the net from around 45 yards.
But the Blues should have been in front at the break when Dowdican released Daniel Rose and the midfielder rounded the Paulton goalkeeper, only to shoot wide with an empty goal at his disposal.
Paulton always looked the more comfortable after the interval and 14 minutes into the half were rewarded when Ricky Hulbert squeezed the ball past Jon Beames.
Burnham came close to salvaging a point in the final few minutes when a free-kick from Stewart struck the base of the post, but rebounded away to safety.
