SLOUGH Town FC manager Derek Sweetman praised his side's spirit after they launched a impressive fightback against promotion chasers Oxford City on Saturday.

The Rebels fell two goals behind at Holloways Park but pulled one back before launching wave after wave of attack on the visitors goal, however, time ran out for Sweetman's side.

He said: “I’m pleased with the performance today. The effort, teamwork – you can’t knock them. But when you’re down the bottom, things go against you. That’s the way it goes.

“We set our stall to attack from the start. We did that and we gave ourselves opportunities to score. We looked dangerous on the break and gifted them two cheap goals.

“I’m always positive and it’s a step forward, but it’s frustrating. I’m disappointed that they gave themselves a mountain to climb."

Sweetman added: “We need to just carry on doing what we’ve been doing. There’s not much more we can do but win a game of football."
