Rebel relief as Halifax bid fails
HALIFAX Town’s 11th hour bid to save their Conference status failed on Wednesday night and has paved the way for Slough Town to stay in the Southern League.
The decision will be made official tomorrow (Saturday) when the league meets but the last obstacle to the Rebels dropping down a level appears to have been removed and general manager Roy Merryweather says it is deserved.
“I always say you make your own luck,” he said. “All of the other clubs we have come across want Slough to stay up as our fans are so highly-regarded across the league.
“All that remains is whether we stay in the Western division or are moved to the Eastern. There is about a 10 per cent chance this could happen and it would mean a lot more travelling especially around Birmingham way.
“We now have to make sure we never get ourselves in that position again.”
