BURNHAM FC boss Dave Mudge is keen to add to last year’s squad after they faded in the Southern League South & West Division.

The Blues had an impressive season and their unlikely play-off dreams only disappeared in the run-in after they made a flying start.

The Burnham supremo was forced to bring in players from the youth set-up to give them experience at this level after top players like Bryon Bubb and Simon Goodhram left The Gore.

Burnham started pre-season training last week and the mood is positive.

“Everything is A okay,” said Mudge.

“We’ve got about seven new faces but at this present minute I cannot name names. We’ve got two signed and we will be looking to add about six or seven to last year’s squad.

“We had quite a small squad and blooded quite a few youngsters last year and we will see them again.

“We’ve got the reserve set up absolutely right this season and I think some of the younger guys will benefit from that.

“Rather than coming in and playing a bit part role and disappearing, they

can spend more time developing in the reserves and they will benefit from that, come into the first team and play an important part in the first team.”

He added: “We are quite optimistic at the moment, we’ve got a lot of work to do.

“Only time will tell where we will finish in the table but the sooner the start of the season gets here, the better as far as I’m concerned.

“There’s some new teams in the league this year, it will be interesting. Some trips will be longer than others.

“We’ll pit our wits against them — that’s what it’s all about.”

The league fixtures will be released on Tuesday, July 15 but Burnham start their friendlies on Saturday, July 19 at home to Chalfont St Peter. However, they get serious when Staines Town — who went on a fantastic FA Cup run last year and only just missed out on promotion to the Conference South — visit on Tuesday, July 29.
