Jets head coach Steve Moria

SLOUGH Jet’s preparations for the new season have been boosted with the news that Tony Redmond will return for another year.

Thirty-three-year-old Tony was a key part of the Jets team that scooped the 2007/08 Play-Off Championship in April and Jets head coach, Steve Moria is delighted to have him back. “Tony has been instrumental in our success and is very well respected by the other Jets players,” he remarked. “He was one of the most important players for us last season and it’s great to have him back for another year.”

Explaining why he wanted Tony as his assistant, Moria added: “He has great knowledge of the sport and will be a positive influence on the team that we are building, both as a player and as an assistant coach, Coaching is all about getting the best possible contribution from every single player on the team and I know that Tony will be a big asset in this area.

“I’m a playing coach and it’s sometimes difficult for me to see everything that’s happening in the game - that’s where Tony can really help me out. Also, he plays in defence and can see exactly what’s going on in that area, so can really take an onboard role in improving that part of our game.

“There are not many people who know British ice hockey better than Tony,” he added.

Reflecting on last season and the Jets’ goals for this year, Moria commented: “It was extremely exciting last year and was phenomenal to cap off the season by winning the play-offs. We are targeting another trophy this season, that’s how you have to measure success. We feel that the league title is within our grasp and that really is our major goal for this season.”

Redmond commented: “I am very excited to be returning as assistant coach and can’t wait for the season to start. Slough has a superb set up and I am proud to be part of it again for another year. I know it’s been said before but the club really does have a fantastic family atmosphere and the team spirit is second to none.”

He adds, “I would like to thank Mo & Zed for this opportunity and the fans for making both myself and my family so very welcome. Hopefully with some grit, hard work and maybe a little bit of luck, we can bring some more silverware back to the hanger.”
