Blues up for the cup

Not satisfied with Burnham’s unbeaten start to the season, manager Dave Mudge is targeting a run in the FA Cup.

The Blues kick off their cup exploits on Saturday with a tough trip to Spartan South Midlands League side Aylesbury Vale, and Mudge is excited by the prospect: “We’re really looking forward to the cup and this season I want us to have a run in all the competitions we can,” he said.

“I think we’ve got a good enough side, but the first round can often be a banana skin, so we’ll have to be careful.”

To show how seriously he is taking Saturday’s encounter, the Burnham boss watched Aylesbury Vale in their league match with Leverstock Green on Tuesday night. The side, which won their first three league matches of the season and drew their fourth on Tuesday, made a big impression on Mudge.

“They’re a big, strong side and it will be a very difficult game there. We’ll have to be on our mettle to get through, if we’re not we’ll get knocked out,” he remarked.
