Moria pleased with start

DESPITE not being at peak form Steve Moria was happy with the Slough Jets as they started the season how they ended the last campaign - with victories.
The English Premier League Play-off champions defeated Telford Tigers 6-3 on Saturday and followed it up with a 3-1 triumph at Sheffield Scimitars a day later.
Head coach and forward Moria said: “It’s funny because I’m going to compare us as to where we are now to the end of last year and our fitness level is not there. None of the guys were 100 per cent.
“It came down to a dog fight in both games. We played intelligent hockey rather than our fast paced, high tempo game.
“We created lots of chances but from a defensive stand point we gave up a lot of chances that we will have to rectify.
“I felt we were in control on Saturday but Sunday was different against a strong skating side. We got a couple of early goals which gave us the momentum and took the wind out of their sails a bit.”
He added: “I’m extremely satisfied. I wasn’t sure how we were going to start, we’ve got a couple of young guys in, we were missing three big players - an import, Paddy Ward was hurt, but everyone played hard and admirably.”
