Berkshire Media Group, Reading Football Club and the Duchess of Kent House hospice have teamed up to offer supporters the chance to win big while doing heaps to help support a local charity. As part of the hospice’s 20th birthday celebrations, this exciting online auction has been organised to ply eager bidders and footie fans with great, once in a lifetime, prizes at rock-bottom prices.

Participants are in with the chance of winning a Reading FC mascot opportunity, a signed football shirt, a three-course meal and dining experience and much much more.

THE Duchess of Kent House Hospice is preparing to mark 20 years of caring for the people of Berkshire with a series of special events.

Among the highlights will be a collection at the Royals’ match with Leicester City at the Madejski Stadium on March 10 and the sight of 70-year-old club chairman Sir John Madejski running the Reading Half Marathon on April 1 in aid of the Duchess of Kent House Charity (DOKHC).

The DOKHC raises more than £500,000 each year to directly support cancer patients at the hospice. This includes providing various support services, psychologists and complementary therapies, in addition to purchasing general or medical equipment.

Director of fundraising George Solly said: “We work on the idea that even though cure isn’t possible, care is.”

On Sunday, February 12, the Englefield Estate home of the Benyon family will play host to the DOKHC’s third Lanterns for Loved Ones evening for those who have lost friends, family or partners. They will collect their dedicated lanterns and take part in a short memorial service before a lone piper plays a lament.

Other events happening during the year include a charity ball, the third Zumbathon, a car boot sale and DOKHC’s annual Halloween Spooktacular.

For more information or to support, donate or volunteer for the charity call 0118 939 4889 or visit www.dokhc.org.uk.
