A VIGILANTE group patrolling the streets to deter prostitution has been given a stark warning by police following claims some prostitutes have been physically assaulted and falsely imprisoned.
PC Ian Whitlock said in a Stoke, Farnham and Baylis neighbourhood update this month members of the community had started to patrol Stoke Poges Lane to deter prostitutes and kerb crawlers.
He warned them to ensure they did not 'act in a manner that could lead to offences being committed' following information being passed to them that indicates some of the prostitutes have been physically assaulted and 'more worryingly have been subject to what amounts to abduction and false imprisonment'.
No formal complaints have yet been made to the police, however they have vowed to 'investigate thoroughly' should one be made.
Superintendent Richard Humphrey, Slough LPA commander, said: "We continue to work closely with local communities and have held a number of meetings with local residents." He added that Neighbourhood Inspector James Cosham and his team were working to reduce the issues. Annita Baid, chairwoman of the Slough North Action Project (SNAP), said she had seen large groups of men patrolling Stoke Poges Lane.
She added the group, which has worked to combat prostitution in the area for a number of years, is not part of the patrol group.
She said: "The police are keeping things very close to their chests about this. It's all been very secretive. Normal people down the shops don't seem to know who they [the vigilantes] are." PC Whitlock added there had been a 'noticeable drop' in the number of prostitutes, who had moved from Stoke Poges Lane to Farnham Road, Sheffield Road and Oatlands Drive.
Street workers in Slough are also believed to be working in areas such as Southall and Ealing. The police are working with agencies in Slough including the council and in conjunction with the Metropolitan Police to tackle the issue. Reports of prostitution in Slough fell by 21% last year Councillor Fiza Matloob, for Baylis and Stoke, said: "If you live there, it's something you don't want to see.
"Patrolling is absolutely fine, but no-one wants anyone to overstep the mark." It used to be a big problem, but the police are doing a good job to combat it." An announcement was made earlier this month at the Jamia Masjid and Islamic Centre in Stoke Poges Lane to make worshippers aware of the vigilante group. Mosque trustee Mohammed Ayub said no one from the mosque was involved.

This story just highlights the FACT that more need to be done its been going on for years, their is a BIG DRUG problem in Slough I would think all of the Prostitutes are DRUG/ALCOHOL dependent so how else would they pay for it.
NO WOMEN would sell her Body for as little as FIVE POUNDS if they were not addicted.
Moving Prostitutes on just pushes them on to a new location we need to look at the bigger picture.
HELP the Prostitutes to get off the drugs and the local residence can have their streets back, NO prostitutes, No Curb Crawlers, Safer streets.
When a women has to sell her body for DRUGS/DRINK then I would think they have hit rock bottom, with no help of getting back up, home rehab dose not work as they need constant support and a different lifestyle.
The extra money spent on policing is not working and I should think a REHAB would be a better solution to the problem.I would like to know how much it has cost so far just to police the streets in those areas over the years.

@Purdie sorry but many of these women are not drug addicts at all..Many indulge in this behaviour because it's quick easy money, well a way to make money... I find that degrading..A woman or a man should never lower his/her dignity for a sake of few extra pounds!
Even the drug addicted prostitutes should never lower themselves..Many in the world are drug addicts yet choose not to indulge in prostitution. If they think they need to resort to prostitution then they should choose to get help. It all comes down to choice and personality traits.
One can only help themselves, they know there are rehabs and help out there, but they still choose to lead the lifestyle they do.. Am sorry but no sympathy from me, the only ones I feel sorry for are the Children (those who do) and their parents/family.
Many work hard to achieve what they do and be a success and never touch opiates/drugs.. Many have self-respect and principles..
Like I said many of these women are not addicted, infact many of them have day time jobs too, but they simply do not care about their self-respect nor have any morals..You cannot help those who do not help themselves... Helping addicts is like playing with fire, it only increases their degrading behaviour..
The only way addicts will learn is we do not ask them for help, wait until they ask for help..We should not make them struggle much as possible..Like an ex-addict said the only way they will see any sense is if they struggle to get food on the table, roof over their head and warmth from the cold etc. The more we provide this to them they more they will keep leading their low life life-style, the harder we make it for them the more alone they will feel and realize their life- style and choices aren't the life they really want to lead.
Its about choice, they choose to do those so they are responsible..
You would never see an educated intelligent attractive female ever be involved in prostitution.

.....and we've had prostitutes since when? (the year dot)
Though not unsympathetic to these girls problems, my main gripe is with these vigilante groups who are of a certain persuasion, the hypocrisy is astounding, maybe these vigilantes need to stop looking through their rose tinted specs and take a look in the mirror at their own behaviour, but hey, let's not broach a sensitive un PC subject hey?
Bloody hypocrites!

TEHRAN Intelligent and confident, Parisa, 23, is from what could be loosely termed a middle-class family and has a bachelors degree in computer engineering from Islamic Azad University.
On weekends, she sells her body for profit on the streets of North Tehran.
Im a lot of fun. My time is very valuable, says Parisa, a diminutive computer technician using a pseudonym to shield her identity.
She is part of a new phenomenon here young, educated and independent women becoming occasional, part-time prostitutes driven by the Islamic republics weakened economy.
A single transaction can make her $80, three-fifths of what she earned monthly at a mid-size tech firm before she lost her job about five months ago. And Tehran has no shortage of sex-starved young men sons of wealthy parents who are willing and able to cruise the streets in search of pleasure at a price.
What choice do I have? Parisa says. If I [leave Tehran and] go back to Khorramabad, then I go home a failure. My parents cant support me. With the rising price of everything, Im afraid to ask them how they are surviving themselves.
