THE Berks & Bucks FA Women’s World Cup Festival at Slough & Eton School has been hailed as a great success after participants showed a great interest in the game.

The County FA promoted the recent Women’s World Cup with branding displayed around the school to help raise interest from pupils, and get them more involved within football.

Along with the branding material, there was a practical element to the day, with a round robin tournament, a target net practice and a penalty shootout.

The allowed the girls to not only play small-sided games, but also practice their shooting and have some fun with the shootout.

There was also a face painting stall in which the girls could have flags of the World Cup painted on their faces.

Throughout the day, the Berks & Bucks FA took the time to ask people about their knowledge of female football, and the quotes they received were very positive, highlighting the need for a women’s game.

Gavin Blackshire, a PE teacher at Pennwood Primary School, said: “A lot of the girls are really proud of the certificates that they’re receiving from taking part in the event.

“They are really enjoying the opportunity to play football.” The Women’s World Cup Festival at Slough & Eton School turned out to be a great success, with a lot of girls showing a great interest within the sport.
