BURNHAM captain Harveer Gandam believes his side should be further up the Division One table after frustrating back-to-back draws.

Patience was the key to a tie with Tring Park last week, though Burnham were made to rue their luck against bottom-of-the-table Oxford on Saturday.

Batting first at The Memorial Ground, Burnham made an impressive 302-8 from 61 overs.

Gandam, pictured above, was the star on show with his century (108), whilst Raja Rehman (48) and Adnan Malik (46) added 76 runs in an impressive seventh wicket stand.

Oxford lost wickets at regular intervals in their chase of the total, but the last pair Alexander Morgan (17*) and William Rooney (3*) held on to secure the draw.

Andrew Clough (37) top scored for Oxford, who closed on 181-9 after 63 overs. Azhar Ali (4-29) and Aftab Khan (3-66) led the bowling attack for the hosts.

Gandam told The Observer: “It was a bit frustrating because we couldn’t get the last wicket. It’s the story of the last two weeks.

“The pitch was pretty good and we thought we would get the best out of the wicket early on by batting first.

“I needed to start contributing somewhere so a ton was a good place to start. I was in pretty early and batted well all the way through.

“To be honest, we were looking at 300 and then the declaration but I got out at a silly time, so we could’ve got there quicker.” He added: “It’s a bit frustrating to only draw because the wicket was good and turning, which brought our attack into the game.

“We beat the bat but dropped a couple of catches, not that it made a difference. We bowled well and were a bit unlucky because we beat the bat so many times.

“We’ve missed out on about 18 points by not getting the final wicket in the last two games.” Burnham travel to High Wycombe this Saturday and Gandam commented: “It’s always a nice place to go and there’s plenty of runs to be had.” BURNHAM captain Harveer Gandam believes his side should be further up the Division One table after frustrating back-to-back draws.
