BURNHAM captain Harveer Gandam has condemned his side for a lack of responsibility after a nine-wicket defeat at High Wycombe on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.

After two frustrating draws in recent weeks, a batting collapse was the catalyst for a comprehensive loss at London Road, leaving Gandam to question the application of his team.

Speaking to the Observer, he bemoaned: “It was a poor show from us and, to be honest, just another case of a batting collapse as only two players managed to score.

“The same people are contributing with the bat and now others need to pull their socks up a little.

“I don’t like to drop players but it’s an important time of the season now and people need to start applying themselves.

“There is a lack of responsibility with players thinking someone else will do it for them. Other teams are more ruthless and hungry at the moment.

“You’ve got to have a selfish attitude really as it’s a very important time in terms of the league. We’re capable of doing it but we didn’t apply ourselves on Saturday.” Having won the toss, Burnham were bowled out for 201 after 50.1 overs with Karan Kumar (60) and Gandam (47) the main contributors.

Opener Adam Hose (108no) was the star on show for High Wycombe as his unbeaten century - off just 69 balls - steered the hosts to a winning total of 205-1 from 21.3 overs.

Captain Nathan Hawkes (66no) was equally aggressive with the bat, whilst Adnan Malik (1-38) took the sole wicket of Gavin Baker for 22.

Gandam, pictured above, added: “The form of Kuran Kumar is good at the moment.

“He’s in good nick but fighting a lonely battle at the minute.

“I got in and then out, which started the collapse, but everyone else did the same and 201 was never enough on that wicket, a typical High Wycombe batting paradise.

“We got hammered with the ball as well. We just attacked trying to take clusters of wickets so it’s no surprise that the bowlers were expensive.

“We tried to pitch the ball up to get the best opportunities so you can’t really blame the bowlers.

“High Wycombe attacked looking to be positive and finish the match quickly, and Adam Hose didn’t play a false shot. He creamed the ball all over the place.” The skipper added: “Results obviously didn’t go our way and it’s getting quite bunched up at the bottom.

“We’re all pretty close to each other and it’s going to be a scrap.

“A couple of wins and you’re much better off. It’s that time of the season where you need a couple of wins.

“Now is the time to get things right and play the cricket we want.” Burnham welcome Reading to The Memorial Ground this Saturday (11am start), and Gandam said: “We felt we should’ve beaten them the first time and hopefully we will put it right.” BURNHAM captain Harveer Gandam has condemned his side for a lack of responsibility after a nine-wicket defeat at High Wycombe on Saturday, writes Rob Stevens.
