DISCUSSIONS are said to have 're-commenced’ between the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority and developers over a proposal for a new Slough Fire Station.

The current station is in Tuns Lane, just off the A4 and with easy access to the M4 motorway.

A replacement building will be on the agenda of a management committee meeting on Monday.

Trevor Ferguson, Royal Berkshire’s deputy chief fire officer, admitted that discussions have taken place.

But he added: “There are no current plans to relocate Slough fire station.

“Although some informal discussions have taken place with developers in relation to Slough, no proposals have been developed or put forward to the fire authority.”

Cllr Ted Plenty, a panel member for the Royal Berkshire Fire Authority, said: “There are possibilities of a move happening, although it would have to go through several meetings and a full public consultation first, so it’s an awfully long way off, if it even gets to that stage.

“There is some very clever software that can work out the very best location for a fire station, so it would only move if we could find a better place to go.”
