COUNCILLORS and an MP have shown a united front in protesting against the mooted Heathrow Express depot (HEX) move.

Slough Borough councillors and Fiona Mactaggart, Slough’s MP, stood side-by-side at Harrow Market in Langley on Saturday, canvassing support against moving the depot from west London to the former Total Oil site, in Station Road, while Slough Borough Council agreed to petition against HEX during a full council meeting on Tuesday.

Ms Mactaggart said: “The point of the petition is to show that there is near unanimity on local opposition to this development while there are mixed views about what should happen on the land.

Talking about the council’s petition during the meeting, council leader Rob Anderson said: “We’re doing something quite substantial as a council here.

“It will have a massively detrimental affect on Slough with no benefit. We are rabid in our defence of business rates, council tax and housing.”

Cllr Diana Coad, who was at Harrow Market on Saturday, added: “I’m against housing still. What I would like to see there is a really good DIY and garden centre. We haven’t got the infrastructure for more housing.”

South Bucks District Council has agreed to petition against the plans.
