POLICE officers in Slough turned into art critics at a young people’s photography competition organised by the Slough YMCA.

On Monday last week, the YMCA provided young people with cameras to go out to Herschel Park and take photographs on a summer theme.

Then, on Friday at theYMCA Hangout, in Ladbroke Road, Superintendent Simon Bowden, Inspector Nikki Pierce and Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) Stuart Bradfield, judged and presented awards to the winners.

Iulia Demeter, community manager at Slough YMCA, said: “We feel very lucky to have such a good relationship between the YMCA and police.

“The children are always very keen to participate in such events.

“The perception they have of the police has changed for the good and community events such as this competition helps with community cohesion and break down stereotypes.”

PCSO Bradfield said: “This is the third event from our joint summer programme, which aims to provide the opportunity for the young people of Slough and the officers of the police force to come together.”
