AFTER mysterious accounts left councillors puzzled, a report has been released by a parish council in a bid for clarity.
During a Burnham Parish Council meeting in July, it was confirmed a financial review was to take place, after confusion over the control of the council's money.
Council chairman Paul Kelly has now confirmed, via a statement, a number of issues have now been rectified and after the audit. It was found that a large number of Sage, a financial system, entries were incorrect, and VAT liability was under paid by £15,000. This has now been paid.
Other payments now made include a £60,000 HMRC bill, and more than £27,000 of pension contributions to Bucks County Council.
The statement added: “The auditor did, in his review, find minutes where councillors had raised concerns and had asked important questions to the financial control and procedures.
“In his opinion, the actions were not taken and the financial control was inadequate."
“Cheques were not issued on time resulting in lost/missing payments that suddenly appeared.
“I am pleased to now sign off last year’s audit and look forward to the improvements being made as a matter of urgency.”
