THE former Skindles hotel is set to be turned into homes and apartments after a redevelopment scheme was were approved at a planning committee last week.

This follows the green light granted to will jthe approval for plans for the redevelopment of the riverside area in Taplow after its approval last weekWednesday.

The planning committee at South Bucks District Council (SBDC) passed the three applications, subject to conditions, for the redevelopment of the derelict Mill Lane site, which includes the former Skindles hotel.

The plans, which were submitted by Berkeley Homes, include 141 homes, 40 retirement apartments and a restaurant. Plans to build a walkway across the river have already been approved.

Berkeley Homes believes adding a roundabout to the A4, instead of its original traffic light plans, will keep traffic free flowing.

The roundabout, south of the Windrush garage, would include a new access road for the housing development.

The existing Bath Road entrance to Mill Lane would become left turn only for cars coming over Maidenhead bridge.

Councillor Alan Samson, for Burnham Lent Rise and Taplow, said the proposal had his "wholehearted approval".

He said: “Berkeley Homes have listened to us and done everything we asked of them in terms of reducing the height of the proposed buildings. There didn’t seem any sound reason to not let them go ahead with it.

“The Skindles site is just a mess and we needed something more attractive.", and it’ll make a nice improvement to the area.

“We’re getting more affordable homes, which is what the place needed.”
