A CAR park in South Bucks has been given an award for its disabled parking facilities, following an assessment by the charity Disabled Motoring UK (DMUK).

The car park, in Burnham Beeches, has been awarded the Disabled Parking Award (DPA) for its excellent disabled parking facilities, becoming the first nature reserve car park to win the award.

DMUK introduced the DPA accreditation scheme to improve parking for disabled people, as poorly marked out bays, difficulties in using payment machines and bad lighting can make parking difficult.

The assessors declared that the car park had all the correct measures in place to enable disabled people to use the facilities at Burnham Beeches.

In addition, in order to qualify for the award, the accessible bays must be monitored and penalty charge notices given to those found parking without a Blue Badge.

Helen Dolphin, director of policy and campaigns for Disabled Motoring UK, said: “It gives me great pleasure to commend Burnham Beeches car park on this achievement and I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all personnel involved.

“When you have a disability it can be a struggle finding a car park that meets your needs and so it is fantastic to know that users of these facilities can be confident that they will be able to park.”
