FAMILIES, friends and colleagues all came together for a day of fun, foam and fundraising.
Gung Ho! – a 5km inflatable obstacle course to test even the fittest while providing plenty of laughs – was held at Windsor Racecourse on Saturday morning.
People came from far and wide, including pole dancers from Wales and even Superman – 22-year-old Ian Skelly from Burnham – paid a visit.
Mr Skelly, who was running with colleagues from Covea on behalf of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice, said: “My sister said she would sponsor me if I did it in my Superman outfit. I’ve been mentioned on the tannoy and I got a very strange look from a five-year-old girl – I don’t think I looked like the Superman she’s used to seeing.”
The Beck Theatre in Hayes, was represented by a team in purple T-shirts, raising money for Great Ormond Street.
A nervous but quietly confident Catherine Goss, marketing manager at the theatre said: “Getting through without breaking anything is my aim.”
The 1st Lightwater Scout Group said they were really excited to get involved with the challenge but that they were worried about the big slide.
Chrissy Welding, a leader for the scout group, said: “We’re doing it for fun and adventure.”
The event provided plenty in the way of energy for the competitors from a Farmhouse Grill stand to a noodle bar, as well as ice cream and sausage rolls.
Seven-year-old Beth Webster ran with her mum Jules, who works as a nurse at Alexander Divine Children’s Hospice.
Mrs Webster said: “It was all off the back of Beth – she’s Beth has always wanted to wear a number on her back and do some fundraising.
"She’s managed to raise £500 and I am really, really, very proud of her."
“She loved it - she was desperate to keep running - I couldn’t get her out of the foam. I think she would have done it all again.”
Tickets are available now for a special discounted price of £30 for next year’s event which will take place on September 10, 2016.
