A PROPOSAL to relocate a post office into larger premises has been lauded as being able to provide a better service for its customers who may, however, find they could face a fight for parking spaces in the process.
Langley Post Office, currently located at 278 High Street could move around the corner to premises at 13 Harrow Market at the end of the year.
Located in its new home, the post office would have improved access, be open seven days a week and will offer an extra 18.5 hours of service a week.
Langley Post Office has been run by postmaster Roy Matta and his family for the past 27 years and they want to move to allow more space for retail alongside the post office for confectionery, tobacco and news.
The new premises would provide the same number and style of serving positions as the current location with four modern serving positions – two open-plan counters, one screened and an open-plan Post Office service point next to the retail till.
Ward councillor Diana Coad said: “I’m concerned about the area around the Harrow Market with parking for the shops there. It’s mainly cars of parents with children at the school.
“I’m worried there will be a loss of spaces and it will impact on the traders that are already there.”
The post office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments on the move in a six-week public consultation, which will close on November 10, 2015.
Submissions can be made during the consultation by post at Freepost YOUR COMMENTS to Post Office Ltd, via email to comments@postoffice.co.uk, via the Customer Helpline on 03457 22 33 44, Textphone on 03457 22 33 55 or via an online questionnaire at postofficeviews.co.uk – branch code 073946.
