A VILLAGE is planning to fight all the way against plans for a gravel extraction plant.

Hedgerley residents and its parish council are fighting against RJD Limited, based in Harlow, who plans to set up a gravel extraction plant at Slade Farm, plans which would also result in the use of a mineral processing plant, concrete batching plant and soil treatment plant.

The Hedgerley Fighting Fund has been set up by residents in the village in the battle against the proposal and to gain financial support - an integral part of the campaign - to stop the 12-year project from going ahead.

Peter Brogden, chairman of the Hedgerley Fighting Fund, said: “We’re opposed on a number of grounds. First and foremost it represents a real significant adverse impact on the village and secondly we don’t accept that is is at necessary at this stage." - the most recent published assessment shows a more than adequate supply of sand and gravel in the area“We’re raising money very successfully and we intend to fight it all the way.”

Neil Coxhead, chairman of Hedgerley Parish Council said: “The proposed development would result in an incredible 152 lorry movements every day, and we anticipate gravel lorries creating traffic chaos on Hedgerley Lane and at pinch-points such as at the M40 services and in villages like Farnham Common."

“The impact on the community amenity from noise, dust is also a worry.

“Hedgerley has won the Buckinghamshire Best Kept Village on many occasions and as recently as last year. The site of proposed gravel works is a designated Area of Attractive Landscape and there is no justification for it.”
