A WOMAN who made her dog live outside without proper shelter or fresh water has been banned from keeping animals for 10 years.

Neelam Ali, 27, of King Edward Street, Slough, was sentenced at Reading Magistrates’ Court on Friday, November 13, after she admitted failing to ensure the welfare of her dog Tyson, a American bull breed.

Tyson was rescued on March 20, after neighbourhood enforcement officers, accompanied by police, found him living permanently outside with no bedding, a rundown shed as a kennel and no fresh water.

The team also found a number of hazards in the garden including nails, rusty metal and dirty ground water.

Vets later discovered that Tyson had eaten some wood.

Linda Corcoran, housing and enforcement officer for Slough Borough Council, said: “When we saw the conditions Tyson was living in we had no choice but to take him away for his own safety.

“Every dog has the right to live in a safe, suitable environment, and Tyson’s home was far from safe or suitable.

“Thankfully he didn’t suffer any lasting effects and he’s now enjoying lots of love and attention with a new owner.”

Cllr Sohail Munawar, commissioner for social and economic inclusion, with a responsibility for enforcement, said: “In cases like this we rely on the community to be our eyes and our ears.

“I urge anyone who thinks an animal is being mistreated to call us in confidence, so we can step in to help.”

Ms Ali was also ordered to pay £1,700 prosecution costs.
