AN AUTHORITY’S fight against plans to build a train depot is set to be ramped up.

Slough councillors will discuss at a full council meeting on Tuesday submitting a second petition opposing a revised report published by HS2 Ltd in October over plans to relocate the Heathrow Express depot (HEx) to Langley as part of the multi-million pound rail scheme.

The council believes the development will result in the town losing out on more than 200 homes – subsequently causing a loss in tax and business rates – it will damage the air quality of the town, it will not provide further jobs and that the construction period will cause noise pollution and congested roads around Langley. Council documents state none of these concerns have been addressed in the latest HS2 report.

Councillors will also discuss a motion to hold a full public consultation within the next three months on the future of the old Town Hall site in Bath Road which is currently being used as an annex to Claycots School.

The original agreement is that the building will be used by the school until September 2019 but The Observer reported last month a senior Labour councillor saying the school was going to be at the site permanently.

The motion states: “Any ultimate decisions impacting on the future of the Old Town Hall core building, including its usage, beyond September 2019, should be brought back to full council for final determination.”

The meeting will be held at The Centre, in Farnham Road, from 7pm.
