A SCHOOL expansion plan previously labelled a "monstrosity" and a mammoth shopping centre redevelopment saga are set to be decided on.

Slough councillors sent Claycots School's expansion design at the Old Town Hall site, in Bath Road, back to the drawing board when they were presented with it at last month’s planning meeting.

The design has now been amended revising the materials being used, the façade treatment and the overall size between the existing Town Hall building and the proposed development. It is due to be decided on at a planning meeting on Thursday.

As well as this a draft landscaping scheme has been submitted which proposes at the front of the school new trees and shrubs will be planted and the existing grass will be improved.

Also up for discussion is a huge plan to redevelop two Slough shopping centres which had been deferred at July’s planning meeting.

The proposal would mean the partial demolition, extension and refurbishment of both The Queensmere and The Observatory shopping centres in High Street, providing 124 retail outlets, restaurants and cafes, plus a 10 screen cinema, a health and fitness club and 675 flats.

The latest proposal has included reducing the height of the western tower of flats by three stories with three of the other towers having an extra floor added, but without increasing the height of the tallest building.

The entrance to the shopping centre from McKenzie Square has also been remodelled to make it taller and the space between Queensmere and The Curve has been widened and remodelled to improve pedestrian access between the two.

Upton Court Grammar School, in Lascelles Road, Slough, has also put in an application for a large scale redevelopment of the school including demolishing 14 current buildings and constructing new facilities including a sports hall.

If approved the work will provide an extra 75 school places.

Also on the agenda is an application by Comfort Care Services Ltd for the construction of a five-storey block of 28 flats for vulnerable adults in Mill Street, Slough, as well as a proposal from a separate applicant to build 20 social housing flats for residents with learning difficulties on the former Rochford Hostel site between Uxbridge Road and Rochford Gardens.

The meeting will take place at St Martins Place in Bath Road, Slough, from 6.30pm.
