A NURSERY has demonstrated the importance of making every child feel special with boxes full of gifts being put together to be sent around the globe.

Slough Day Nursery, in Ipswich Road, Slough, decided to give to those children less fortunate in other countries, including Romania, Moldova, Ukraine Albania, Baia, Czech Republic and Tinaud, by making shoeboxes as part of the Rotary Shoebox Scheme.

The boxes will be delivered to children aged from new born babies up to five-year-olds and they include items like babygrows, hats, gloves, scarves, socks, T-shirts and trousers or bubbles, toy cars, small world animals, colouring books and pencils, frozen sets and hairbands.

Abbey Towsey, acting manager at the nursery, said: “It has helped us to promote diversity and equality in our nursery through sharing and knowing that we are different to other children in the world and that it is important to make sure that other cultures are celebrated and everyone deserves to feel special.”

Rotary, Inner Wheel, Rotaract, Interact & Rota Kids Clubs purchase the special boxes from the Rotary Trustees (a small group of Rotarians who administer the scheme). The boxes are sent ‘flat packed’ to the club.

It is then up to the club as to where to send the boxes for filling.
