HUNDREDS of aspiring youngsters received a taster of the working life at a popular careers fair.

The first day of the Slough Aspire Careers Event took place at The Centre in Farnham Road today (Wednesday) with pupils from six schools across the borough attending to gain an insight into potential careers.

More than 65 businesses and organisations showcased the work they do to Year 9 pupils in the fourth year of the event.

Nancy Lalor, operations manager at Learning to Work which organises the event, said: "It has gone really well. We are really pleased at the enthusiasm of the students.

"The timing of it could have been more perfect as the students have just chosen or are about to choose their GCSE options so it is about raising awareness of the choices and career opportunities out there."

The event is also being held tomorrow (Thursday) from 9am-3.45pm for schools only and is also open to the whole community tonight (Wednesday) from 3.45-7pm.
