PUPILS spent a day focused around the topic of ‘money matters’ learning about the use of money at a superstore.

Year 2 pupils from Godolphin Infant School in Warrington Avenue visited Sainsbury’s in Farnham Road, Slough, to learn about money by looking at prices and products while being taken on a tour of the store and sneaking a peek at the equipment in the back on Monday and Thursday last week.

The pupils, aged between six and seven, were given money to buy their bags by using the self scanners – something they thought was great – as well as receiving goody bags which contained healthy snack options.

Nalini Subramaniam, Year 2 teacher, said: “They had good learning experience in terms of handling money which gives them real life experience in maths.”

She also said children were very excited.

Paul Agate, manager at the Farnham Road store, added: “We are keen to promote financial awareness amongst children and also to promote healthy eating throughout the community.”

The store is keen to continue working with local schools and the community.

It aims to utilise its links, especially with Sport Relief coming up in March and the Active Kids campaign throughout the February half term.
