A CONSULTATION has been launched on possible traffic calming and parking restrictions in a residential road.

Burnham Parish Council has launched the consultation on Friday last week (29/1) to benefit Hag Hill residents, following increased traffic from the Bishop Centre retail park which opened in 2014.

Traffic data collected between September 2014 and April last year revealed a jump in traffic volumes between 9% and 20% and incidents of speeding have doubled.

The parish council and Bucks County Council were awarded £70,000 in section 106 contributions to deal with traffic calming and parking improvements in the Hag Hill area following the approval of the construction of the Bishop Centre, but no clear scheme was found after a consultation in 2014.

The parish council claims that Bucks County Council failed to engage with them, but now the parish council is working alongside county councillor Dev Dhillon and Sian Thomas, area schemes delivery team leader at Transport for Bucks, to find a solution.

Parish clerk Sheridan Edward said: “We are delighted that Bucks County Council and Transport for Bucks are now engaging with the parish council, and we hope a solution can be found as soon as possible to help the residents of Hag Hill.”

Hag Hill Lane has little pavement space and residents are particularly concerned about children and other vulnerable people walking along the road.

Hag Hill resident Julia Shanu-Wilson said: "It is encouraging to see that road safety and parking issues in Hag Hill Lane are finally being addressed. Top priority should be given to improving safety of children and other pedestrians walking along Hag Hill Lane, as it is a narrow road with virtually no pavements."

Another resident Andrew Jones added: “I am very pleased that changes at the parish council have bought renewed support for residents in addressing the safety and parking issues that have resulted from the Bishop Centre redevelopment. I feel positive that progress will be achieved this time and I encourage residents to engage in the consultation."

Details of the consultation can be found at www.burnhamparish.gov.uk and the closing date for comments in Monday, February 15.
