A DINNER to establish links between British Muslims and the armed forces was hailed a success.

The dinner at Baylis House Hotel in Slough on Friday last week welcomed members of the armed forces as well as local dignitaries to build links in the community.

The Mayor of Slough, councillor Mohammed Rasib, Slough local police area commander, superintendent Gavin Wong, and Slough Borough Council leader, Cllr Rob Anderson, were all present.

Community groups were also hand to discuss issues and find ways to establish better links.

Cllr Fiza Matloob, who helped to organise the event, said: "It was originally intended for young Muslims but we had a whole bunch of other communities attend.

"The best thing about it was that it allowed people to engage with regular army soldiers and the kids were saying that they really enjoyed it.

"The event was a success with many young 12-18 year olds getting to meet cadets and members of the armed forces, getting to ask numerous questions and signing up to join the cadets."

Members of the Slough Army Cadets, as well as members of the Coldstream Guards based in Windsor were on hand to offer advice and guidance to teenagers keen to get involved in the armed forces.
