WOKINGHAM CC suffered a second straight Thames Valley League Division One defeat as they lost by six wickets at home to Stoke Green, writes Richard Ashton.

The Oaks were given a fine start after being put in to bat, with Stuart Parsons and captain Stuart Hayter taking the score to 70 until the latter was bowled by Hash Hussain.

Michael Bates fell shortly after, caught by Saqlain Basharat off the bowling of Hussain, but Parsons and Dan Housego steadied the ship in a third-wicket stand of 85.

Parsons was eventually run out for an excellent 84, and when Housego (35) became Hussain’s (3-49) third wicket of the day and Archie Carter and Jake Turner fell for ducks – both to Zulfi Butt (2-40) – Wokingham had crashed from 168-2 to 170-6.

Jack Fisher and Tom Wood put on 50 for the seventh wicket until they both fell to Sajid Aziz (2-48), and the home side eventually closed on 233-9 from their 50 overs.

Luca Wade accounted for Hussain early in the Stoke Green innings, and when Karanpreet Singh was run out, Stoke Green were 51-2.

An ultimately match-winning partnership of 99 between Nadeer Malik (74) and Conrad Lough (48) was ended by Housego (2-39) when he had Malik caught by Anthony Clapham.

The former Gloucestershire man also removed Lough to put the game back in the balance at 161-4, but Fahad Masood (43no) and stand-in captain Vishal Arjan (34no) held their nerve to take their side to victory with 17 balls to spare.

Wokingham visit Cove in the first of their win/lose/draw games this Saturday (1pm).

In Division 4b, table-topping Wokingham 2nds had the better of their draw at Fleet.

Dan Reddyhough (81) continued his fine form and Craig Beales also chipped in with 55 as the visitors totalled 238-6 in 49 overs, with Peter Talbot (3-64) the pick of the attack.

In reply, only captain Iain Muirden (65) really got going as John Macdonald (3-48) and Jacob Clark (4-52) proved a handful, and Fleet eventually closed on 185-7.

Wokingham 3rds picked up a third Division 6b win of the season after they thrashed Theale & Tilehurst 2nds by 114 runs.

David Pelczer made 37 for the Oaks, but they looked in trouble at 167-8 until captain Ashley Cutts (39) and Charlie O’Brien (38) added 58 for the ninth wicket. Wokingham were eventually dismissed for 226, with Brian Cooper (5-84) and Mohammed Jamil (3-41) the pick of the T&T attack.

Ross Bonnell (2-10) grabbed two early wickets to torpedo the visitors’ reply from the outset, and with Rakesh Patel (3-3), O’Brien (3-35) and Harry Staples all impressing, Theale & Tilehurst were shot out for 96. Jamil played a lone hand for them, top scoring with 50 not out.

Rahul Patel (3-17) and James Stevens (3-36) combined to help Wokingham 4ths bowl Reading 4ths out for 151 in Division 8b, Wazir Khan top scoring with 50.

In reply, Glyn Clements made 43, Jake Atkinson 39 and Raj Acharya an unbeaten 35 as the Oaks cruised to victory.

Chris Coyne top scored with 41 as Wokingham 5ths (190-7) had the better of a draw against Kidmore End 3rds (119-9) in Division 9a. Mark James took 3-37 for the Oaks.
