A POLITE plea has been issued for residents to stop stealing flowers.

Slough Borough Council has asked residents to allow the beautiful plants and flowers to be left in the town's parks for everyone to enjoy, after reports of people snipping roses, pulling up plants and picking flowers.

The council received reports two ladies were pulling roses off the bushes in Salt Hill Park on Monday, with similar reports being made across the borough.

Slough Observer:

Councillor Joginder Bal, commissioner for environment and leisure, said: “The council spends thousands of pounds of taxpayers’ money each year making sure the town’s parks are bright, colourful and pleasant places to be.

“This anti-social behaviour is theft from both the park and from every local taxpayer and I call on all our park users to report anyone seen doing this so we can try and stop this from happening.”

He added: “Our displays of plants and flowers are vital for the environment, our premier parks’ green flag status and for everyone to enjoy.

“There were 9.6 million visits to Slough’s parks and open spaces last year; let’s keep our parks places we can all be proud of.”

Anyone wishing to report vandalism in parks can call the anti-social behaviour hotline on 01753 875298. If you need police attendance please call 101 or, in an emergency, 999.
