A MAN has been found guilty of attempted murder after brutally attacking and raping a 36-year-old woman.

Damian Kazimierczak, aged 19, of Salt Hill Way, Slough, was today found guilty of one count of attempted murder and one count of rape, following a trial at Reading Crown Court.

The victim was viciously attacked by Kazimierczak in Salt Hill Park in the early hours of Monday, December 28 last year - Boxing Day bank holiday. She suffered serious facial and neck injuries that required immediate medical attention followed by operations. She remained in hospital for several days after the assault.

The attack took place close to the footpath near the A4 Bath Road, almost directly opposite the town hall.

Kazimierczak, who was not known to authorities in the UK or his birthplace Poland, was arrested on January 9 and charged with the offences the following day.

Senior investigating Officer, Det Supt Kevin Brown, said: “This was a vicious attack which left the victim with severe injuries, as well as mental scars that cannot be healed.

“The victim was left unconscious and semi naked after being brutally beaten and raped.

“Kazimierczak has always maintained the attack was down to another unknown individual. However, given that the victim’s blood was found on Kazimierczak’s shoes, that she courageously picked him out in an identity procedure and that she maintained the man she met on the Bath Road was her attacker, corroborated as Kazimierczak by CCTV evidence, the jury’s conclusion, having considered this and other powerful evidence, is the correct one.

“Thankfully the jury saw through Kazimierczak’s not guilty plea and defence, justice has now been done.

“I hope the victim can feel some sense of justice that Kazimierczak has been convicted for the terrible crimes he committed.

“Understandably the offences had an impact on the community, especially those who live near and use the Salt Hill Park. I would like to thank the public for their cooperation during our investigation.”

A date for sentencing is yet to be scheduled.
